Spine showing my super quick sewing

Spread of the ‘damaged’ image

In this case, the spine wasn’t even connected

Detail of the spread
So here is the mock-up of my experimental book.
The binding/format seems to be working nicely. The only problem I’ve found is with the glue. When I opened the pages, the images on the spine were damaged and I have no idea of how to apply the right amount of glue.
My guesses are:
- I’m applying too much glue on the spine
- The spine was not aligned when the glue was applied
- My sewing was not tight/sturdy enough
If anyone can help, I’d appreciate!
I think you might be right on your guesses as to why your pages are turning out like that. It might also be the glue is dripping down so it might be too wet? (just a guess) Also, are you clamping the pages together when you apply glue? It might help keep the pages aligned while you glue and also keeps it in place when it dries. Best to use two boards to sandwich it and clamp it in place.
And pull that thread tighter when you sew!
